Unique Gift Idea

Did you know that the US Post Office has partnered with a company to print and mail out postcards for businesses and for personal use? I didn't until about a month ago when I was looking for something else. The good thing is, you upload your files, they print and mail them for you. The cost is somewhere around $1 each. Another good thing, the minimum number you can order is one postcard. You can learn more here

Anyway, I had this brainstorm. I had been wanting to do a calendar for 2009 using my scrapbooking supplies. So, I made a calendar - postcard size. But, this isn't just a calendar, it's a mini photo album. You can pop in pictures of the kids, dogs, cats, or whatever, and using the service offered by the post office, you can mail them to friends and family each month.

What better gift to give Grandma and Grandpa, Uncle Joe or Aunt Sally. who live far away? Keep them updated on the kids with a new picture each month. These postcard calendar pages will fit into a 4" X 6" frame, and can be displayed on their desk, wall or even the fridge. Want a preview of what they look like?

You can purchase this set of picture postcard/calendar pages for $2.99 at Raspberry Road Designs new store. Just click on the title to this post and it will take you there. As a bonus, I have included calendar pages for November and December 2008. Those pages are not include on the preview.

For a good cause - A Kit for Lilly

Here is an excerpt from the Raspberry Road blog:

I received a request about three weeks ago from a young lady who had heard that I do request kits for special circumstances. Lilly is a teenager who has a terrible illness but she has asked that no details be shared. She inquired about getting a kit designed that had fun colors but not too pastel. She loves doodles and the colors teal, orange and green so I had my basics down but found that I was needing something extra special to designs the papers with. I went to my usual stock photography place and right there under flowers was the most stunning and perfect set of flowers. I knew I had to have these so I contacted the artist and she was so gracious and allowed me to use these for such a good cause so make sure you check out the link to her site and say hi. Thank you magicmarie for the beautiful graphic and I know Lilly will appreciate it as well.Me and the girls have decided to donate the proceeds from the sale of all these things we design over the next few days to St. Jude in Memphis. They do such miraculous things there and I know that they work from donations.

Susan asked the Raspberry Girls to create a few quick pages for this project. The girls responded with an overwhelming number of pages, a keyplate album, and even some add-ons to the kit.

Go to Susan's blog to read more about this project and see previews of the kit, the add-ons, the quick pages made by the Raspberry Girls and everything else associated with this request kit. More items will be added over the next few days, so check back often. Please add this kit to your list of purchases, it is for a good cause.

I am hosting a challenge at Raspberry Road. It's a recipe challenge. Each month I will be sharing one of my family's favorite recipes on a designed 4x6 layout suitable for printing and adding to your recipe collection. The challenge is simple. I will assign an item to the numbers listed in the ingredient list. For instance, if the recipe calls for 1 cup sugar, 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup nuts, etc., the layout might have to include 1 frame, 1 ribbon, 1/2 circle.

Sound complicated? It's really not. I do hope you will come over to the new RRD forum and check out my challenge as well as the others the Raspberry Girls have cooked up for you. This month during the Grand Opening, there are lots of prizes to be won, games to play and challenges to meet. Come join us.

Time to Reflect and Give Thanks

How many times do you look back on your life and say, "I wish I had done things differently"? As I get older, I find myself reflecting on things I have done and accomplished in my life.
I have come to the conclusion that if I had done things differently at some point along the road that is my life, I wouldn't be who I am today. I have three wonderful children, who have blessed me with eight beautiful grandchildren. I have family and friends who love me for who I am, not what I can give them. I am not wealthy, by any means, but I live comfortably. And, I have my health. I am thankful for all of these things.

I am thankful for the people who have touched my life somewhere along the way. I am thankful for the freedoms that I enjoy in this great land called America. And, I am especially thankful for the service men and women and their families who give so much to keep our land free.

What are you thankful for? Take the time to tell someone you are thankful for their _____(help, love, encouragement......whatever, you fill in the blank). It only takes a moment to let someone know you appreciate all they do. Who knows, you might even brighten that person's day.

Thank you to all of the readers of my blog. I am especially greatful that you have taken a moment of your busy life to stop in and visit. I hope you feel comfortable enough to come back and visit again soon.

Great big cyber hugs to all of you.
Carol

New layout

WOOOHOOOOO! I accomplished something today. LOL, the first day I have off from work after putting in 42 hours in 4 days at work, I usually don't do anything except rest. Today, however, I was feeling creative. So, I made this layout of my grandson and his kindergarten teacher. This was his first crush. As he told his dad when asked what his new teacher was like, "Dad, she's HOT!" He learned a lot from a very caring lady that year, and his behavior improved tremendously.

For this layout, I used a template by Jill at JZDesigns. You can purchase her templates at Raspberry Road Designs new store. The kit I used is one of RRD's kits that you will be able to get free with purchase during the Grand Opening, starting November 1. The kit is called Higher Learning. I used nothing but the various papers from the kit in making this layout. But it is loaded with lots and lots of school related elements for all grades of school.

Happy Haunting!

Hi! Sorry I have been absent for a few days. I have been busy designing new projects for Raspberry Road and working my day job. Susan has a new website/store that will be opening on November 1 and we are all excited about the new things that will be happening there. All of our blogs, forum, gallery and the shoppe will be under one roof now. We are planning a HUGE Grand Opening Celebration, which will coincide with the 1st anniversary of Raspberry Road Designs. It's hard to believe it has been a whole year since Susan opened Raspberry Road.

Today, on Susan's blog you can pick up this cute little project I designed using her new kit Happy Haunting. This is a sample of a new line being introduced at the store called Printables. These will be quick little projects that can be printed from your own computer, assembled and used as gifts for all sorts of occasions. I had planned to show you a photo of my finished box, but my little ghostie took it home with him before I could take a picture. Anyway, today's freebie is a pinch box that would be perfect for your Halloween treats. Included in the zip are instructions for printing and assembling this box. You can swing by Raspberry Road and pick it up.

We would love to hear what you think of this new line, so if you download and use this project, please leave a comment.

Apple Festival

YAY! It's officially Fall, the time of harvest. Soon the farmer's markets across the country will be filling up with lots of fresh goodies. There will be pumpkins, fresh fruits and my favorite . . . apples.

Close to my home, there is a little town nestled in the North Georgia mountains, called Ellijay, Georgia. This sleepy little town, for most of the year is really a quiet, peaceful place to be. Until Fall, that is. In the Fall, apples are harvested from all of the orchards around this sleepy little town, and the town becomes a busy place. Along with the apple harvest, comes the annual Apple Festival. This is the 37th year for the festival in Ellijay. In honor of that occasion, I have created a quick page using Raspberry Road's new kit Apple Festival, you can get the kit on her blog.

Here is a preview of the quick page, which you can grab on the CT blog

If you are lucky enough to live where they are having an Apple Festival, why not gather up the family and check it out? You won't be disappointed.

Saturday already?

Gosh, it's hard to believe that it's Saturday already. Another week has gone by and we are another week closer to the end of another year. It seems as I get older, the faster time has a way of slipping away. Do you ever get the feeling you are not accomplishing as much in the same amount of time? I do! To increase my self image, I have taken to making a list of the things I DO accomplish in a day's time. That way, when I look at my list, I can honestly say, "Look, you did accomplish a lot today!" Maybe I am expecting to accomplish more, but are my expectations reasonable?

ADSD Collaboration Freebie for you

I love camping in the fall. Do you? I love the smell of wood burning in a campfire, roasting hot dogs and marshmallows over an open fire, making S'mores, and telling ghost stories around the campfire. Awakening to the cool crisp morning air after sleeping in a tent is so refreshing.

As you know, I took part in the September Collaboration at ADSD - Cornucopia of Colors. I have some elements in my portion that are just right for your camping layouts. I thought I would make a little treat for you to get you started using your kits you are downloading. Here is a brag book page using my portion of the kit.

If you haven't jumped on board the blog train to pick up the fabulous designs offered by the designers, now is the time to do it. A list of the designers and links to their blogs can be found below this post Have fun!

For those of you that took the time to post a comment on the 4shared site and here on the blog, I thank you. I read all comments and they are very much appreciated. For those of you that didn't, shame on you!

Another Brag Book completed

WOW, I finished two brag books this week! It really makes me feel like I am accomplishing something good. One is already posted on Raspberry Road Designs as a freebie. I used Susan's Nantucket Briar kit for it. Here's a preview.

If you click on the preview, it will take you to Susan's blog so you can download the freebie.

The other one I finished will be released soon on Susan's blog. For it I used her newest kit, released today, County Fair. This kit is loaded with the neatest papers and graphics suitable for all kinds of layouts. There are tractors, farm animals, ribbons, buttons, and other elements. There is even a paper in the kit that has an old pickup truck and images of a ferris wheel. Remember those? I used to love to ride the ferris wheel at the fair!

Where has this week gone? and a freebie

My goodness, time is flying by. Before you know it, it will be Halloween, then Thanksgiving will sneak in and . . . I don't even want to think how fast the C word will get here. Work is taking up a lot of my time, but I'm still spending a lot of my home time designing.

In fact, I am experimenting with some new things. One of the new things is printable photo greeting cards. I would like you to help me decide whether to pursue this venue, so I am offering one as a freebie today.

Click on the preview and you can download it. Only the front is shown. The inside of the card is blank so you can write a message. The file is png, at 300 dpi. Please, if you download it, let me know what you think of the finished product.

Thanks a bunch!

Freebie I promised

As promised, here is the second quick page using my Caribbean Sunset kit.

You can download it here: http://www.4shared.com/dir/8600162/403d2b64/ADD_blog.html or by clicking on the title to the post.

What a wonderful week I had!

You know when you go on vacation that the time will fly by too quickly. This past week was a whirlwind of activity . . . traveling, seeing the sites, visiting with family, casinos, and lots of other stuff. I am soooooo glad to be home, but now comes the unpacking, catching up on laundry and getting back into the swing of things at home.

One really neat place we stopped on the way to my sister's house was a little town in Illinois, called Metropolis, just across the Kentucky/Illinois border on Interstate 24. We had pulled off the interstate at the rest area to take pictures of the kids in front of the "Welcome to Illinois" sign for their scrapbooks. When we started to leave the parking lot, we saw a sign that said "Giant Superman Statue" with an arrow pointing to the left. We decided to check it out. This is what we found.

Pretty neat, huh? But that's not all this little town has to offer. There were paintings on the side of the buildings.

This is a painting honoring the men and women who have served and are serving in the armed forces. A plaque beside it commemorates the story of one veteran of World War II, John Steele, from Metropolis.

Metropolis also offers a Superman museum, and other pictures of Clark Kent, and Lois Lane painted on the side of the buildings. We didn't have a whole lot of time to spend, but it is definitely a must see if you are in the area. I plan to spend some time there the next time I travel through the area.
I'll be back later on today to post a freebie for you, another quick page from Caribbean Sunset.

Good Morning

I have a few minutes to post this morning before the grandkids have everyone up and running. It seems we have been in the car most of the week so far. The trip out to Kansas took about 19 hours. The grandkids got really bored driving that far, so we kept stopping along the way to let them run off a little energy. Yesterday, we drove to Kansas City to see my nephew off to Italy, his new duty station. He will be there for the next few years. It was rough watching him leave, but at least this isn't like the last time we sent him off to Iraq.

After his plane left, we went to one of the Casinos to try our luck. Don't even ask! It was my first trip ever to a casino. It was a lot of fun, but not something I would want to do on a regular basis. There was this one little man sitting playing one of the video machines that would play one of the Village People songs when you won. It was so much fun to watch this old fella dancing in his chair when he won. He played the same machine the whole time we were there, and was having a blast with it.

Well the GKs are getting up, so I guess I had better get a move on or they will leave me behind.

How about a little freebie?

I'm in a good mood today. My vacation starts tomorrow. The packing is all done, except last minute stuff like toothbrush. I am dreading the drive (about 17 hours) but it will be so worth it. Three of my grandchildren and their mom are going with me, so there should be lots of photo ops!

Anyway, I mentioned a freebie. Here is a quick page, from a kit I designed. I call it Caribbean Sunset.

I hope you enjoy it. Oh, and click on the title to this post to take you to where you can download it. : )
Edited to say:
As an anonymous poster pointed out in a comment, you need a password (don't know what's up with that as I did not assign one to it). But the password is orange, the same as the other freebie quick page I offered before.

Toodles for now.

WOOO HOOOOO Another layout finished

I am a haphazard scrapper, to say the least. When I decide I want to scrap a layout, it's kind of like playing Russian Roulette only with photos. I look through a gazillion photos until one of them kind of jumps out at me. Then, I have to hunt through my stash of goodies to find a kit that will go with the photo. With the new Raspberry Jam kit from Raspberry Road Designs, http://raspberryroaddesigns.blogspot.com/ I have the option of doing everyday layouts, Christmas layouts (because the colors work marvelously for that), spring layouts or whatever.

I used the kit for this photo of my son and his fiancee taken at her high school graduation two years ago. It was taken in May, so everything was green and fresh. This kit worked perfectly for it. What do you think?

Any and all comments are welcome. Be sure to go by Susan's store and pick up this versatile kit, you won't be sorry.

Did you have a good Monday?

Monday's always seem to get a bum rap. Nobody likes Mondays. I guess because they signal the end of the weekend, time to hit the road back to work.

I must be a strange duck then, because I love Mondays. They signal a new week to conquer new things. The weekend is over, fun and games time is at an end, and it's time to get creative. I have about a week before I leave for vacation. I have so many things started that I need to get finished before I leave. I have a new kit in the works for the store: http://www.treasuredscrapdesigns.com/ Lots of new style elements in this kit. I need to finish up a couple things for it and get the preview ready. That's tomorrow's assignment. I worked all day on elements for the papers I designed last week. I'm really excited about this kit. I will put up a freebie bonus later in the week that was made from the kit.

Have a good night. See you tomorrow.

My how time flies. . .

I've been busier than a flea in a pack of dogs lately. It seems there just aren't enough hours in a day. That is still no excuse for me to forget my only sister's birthday yesterday. I didn't even think about it until some where around midnight last night and there was noooooo way I was going to call her at that time. I did eventually call her though, and she had a pretty good birthday even without me. I'm so sorry, Sis! I love you .

I hope your weekend is going good. Did you do anything fun? Did you get a little "me" time for yourself? I hope so. Life is too short to not allow yourself some "me" time once in a while. I allowed myself some "me" time yesterday. I went out in the woods and picked some wild blackberries. Yep, you guessed it, I made myself a blackberry cobbler, just a small one though.

There's no one home but me this week. (Yay, no fighting with my son over MY computer!) He went camping with his fiancee's family. They go about this time every year and for the last three years, he has gone with them.

Good grief, it's after midnight again. Guess it's time for this old granny to hit the sack. I hope you have a great night or day, depending on what time zone you're in. Come back later today and I hope to have a nice little surprise for you up on the blog.

Nightie, Night.
